Reflections on the year 2020

Hey everyone, with the approaching new year, Naturally we start to reflect on how the year has gone. It’s certainly not been an easy one by any means.

Some of the things I have reflected on and felt I’ve learnt …

The world is not your classroom

What do I mean by that?

I mean I don’t think taking your books to the beach or the park is the best way to educate, at least not with my children. I found every time I took them to the park with our texts books. They would be so easily distracted by a walking dog or a cat. Getting their work done was taking double the time. What did learn was that the world is full of learning opportunities.

When we were learning about plants, we spent the afternoon in the park, collecting seeds, scavenger hut for different type of plants, pointing at the different types of plants.

It`s not just the world that is your classroom…

Just looking up on clear night while on a stroll and you will realise and see a huge opportunity to talk about all the amazing things related to space.

Another out of this world learning experience can be found at Jodrells bank. We were fortunate enough to visit it this year. I would like recommend the observatory, the planetarium the workshops.

I don’t need to know everything

I learnt to become more confident in my own skin, I learnt it was okay to research with my kids. I became confident and told them mama didn’t know everything and this allowed me to instill into them that even as adults we never stop learning. Admission of ignorance is the first step to self improvement.

Everyone has something to teach

Make sure you grow your network with lots of diversity. We have been fortunate enough to be part of a local community group, Where the talented ladies run so many different activities. We have bakers, yoga instructors & chefs. Which has meant the kids have been able to make Turkish pie, Turkish bread, Make fresh elder flower cordial, Recognise pineapple weeds and lots of different type of of mushroom from our hikes and take part in Yoga sessions!
