Finding the right support once you make the decision to homeschool may be a challenge if you are new to the world of home education. We have listed the best places to start so that you can get the support you need today!
You may not know where to find accurate and up to date advice about homeschooling, especially if you do not know anyone else that homeschools their children. The good news is that there is a lot of support available - if you know where to look. Check out our guide to getting the right help when you need it!
Your Local Council
When you choose to homeschool you will need to inform your local council who will have a dedicated homeschooling team. Many parents believe that once they have registered their child as being homeschooled, then they are on their own, but this is not the case. The homeschooling team can provide advice and support when you need it and will be in contact with you over time to check that you and your child are finding homeschooling productive and if you require any further support.
Other Homeschooling Parents
Children are individuals and their needs and characters are all different. This can make finding suitable advice quite difficult as many homeschooling sites offer advice on how to teach and deliver information rather than how to support your child’s needs. Some of the best advice you can access comes from other homeschooling parents, and there are many different supportive groups that you can join online and in person through regular meet ups, to get in contact with these parents. Homeschooling parents have the first-hand experience of what you are going through, and this makes them a perfect resource!

Dedicated Homeschool Websites
When you go online and start searching for home education, you will find a vast range of education sites from educational resources available on teacher sites to companies that will encourage you to teach English online. There is literally a minefield of information out there and the key is to have a focus and be specific about the information that you are trying to find. Sites such as Twinkle and TES Resources have a wealth of various planning and teaching material, and there are many different homeschool networks that you can sign up to for homeschooling guidance. We advise that you initially stick to two to three sites to get started on your research.
Take some time to consider and research all the help and support that you will need in your homeschooling journey -but do remember that you do not need to know it all straight away! It may take a little time to test the waters and find what works for you and your child.
Homeschooling is an incredibly rewarding decision, but the difference between getting it right and wrong is your mindset.
